Latinx Salud Poems:  An Inaugural Collection

Badge

I wore you like a bruise.
A nasty blue, purple puddle
of hurt under delicate
skin.

Hiding under clothing,
ashamed of what they did to me,
afraid of showing my abuse,
terrified of hemorrhaging
further.

Tender to the touch,
I looked at the purple under fluorescent
light. Wincing at the
shadow of hands
that struck me,
bruised me,
abused me.

I wore you like a bruise.
A blue, purple puddle
under delicate skin.

I wore you like a badge of brutality.
